So, I'm Probably Gonna Offend Someone...

OOPS.
;)

Okay, so today's post is gonna be rather text-heavy...because I got something to say and gosh-darn-it, I'm gonna say it.

First off, I am not Mormon.

SHOCKED?
Don't answer that. (I only say that to tell you where I am coming from with this post. I don't come from the rules of a certain religion but from the opinions I have formed for myself (not to be pushed on others) and what I feel God has called me to do.)

I am, however, a Christian, and have been since I was ten years old. That affects decisions I make...like what I wear. In no way am I naïve enough to think that guys (as base as they may be) are so uncivilized that they are constantly looking around through the filter of rape sex. Do I think they can practice self-control? Absolutely. Do I think my shoulders are that sexy? Absolutely....not. ;)

I don't dress modestly to help guys.
They can help themselves.
I don't dress modestly for other women...because...that's just weird..

I dress modestly partly for God and partly for myself.
The God part is because I feel that the Bible has told me to try my best to be different and peculiar...and modest.
I do it for myself to feel good and to feel comfortable.

So...like anything else you do for yourself, it is completely up to interpretation.

Am I comfortable in tank tops? Do I feel modest in them?
ABSOLUTELY.

Do I wear shorts?
Yup. But not booty shorts...because let's face it...those are BARELY flattering on size 0.

Do I wear two-piece bathing suits?
Yes. Although, I don't wear string bikinis.
And I don't post bathing suit pictures online...because (personal opinion again) it's kind of creepy...and weird...and not fashion to me.

Do I feel that my line of modesty should be the same as yours?
NO.

What you wear, like what you eat or say or where you go, is a personal thing and something to be worked out with you and with God if you so choose to bring him in on it.
And that's the beauty of it.

Now, do I think that you should respect other people's lines of modesty in their home or presence?
Yes.

So, there it is. I felt like I needed to address this because...my blog is about clothes and I've never been shy about being a Christian and I didn't want people to confused about my stance on modesty. Plus, let's face it, it's a hot topic with all the modest blogs out floating around and people certainly have an opinion on those.
Feel free to disagree with me; I completely understand.

{this post was in no way meant to offend the Mormon church; I completely respect everyone's decision to make their own judgments when it comes to their relationship with God, no matter what that may entail}

  1. I dress modestly for the same reasons you stated. You're right, it's a SUPER hot topic right now in the blogosphere and I'm glad you addressed it on here. Not offensive to me either! Quite the opposite, I'm cheering you on! ;)

    Have a sweeet day girl!

  2. I don't find this offensive at all... but it does make me feel really out of the loop because I haven't come across any posts about modesty.
